Quick Tip: Procrastination

You envision the battles, the arcs, and the theme. You sit down and… nothing. You are now the victim of the writer’s block. Or are you? Let’s first do a quick exercise to determine whether you are truly facing that dreadful writing phantom, or you just need a little pick-me-up?

Here’s a quick tip. When you’ve got that splendid idea in your mind, you sit down. Then you write those incredible images you have where your character is dueling his enemy, or he tries to delay an execution through means of dialogue, or you make that vivid location come to life with a mix of both combat and speech. You. Just. Write.

It doesn’t matter if it makes sense that your heroes are there, or whether that scene makes no dramatic/story-wise meaning. It doesn’t matter. What you have done right there is that you have unleashed your creativity, or rather, it simply woke up and it is now roaming free. Did that “writer’s block” somehow disappear? Maybe you never had it in the first place and you simply needed a quick reminder why are you writing in the first place?

Feels good?

Now, let’s start the real thing.
