It is a very good thing to have an outline of the general story when writing your script. It’s a good thing to have a plan of the important scenes and plot beats in order.
However, it is not good to overthink the script, an error which can lead to writer’s block. What I have found works well in making progress is to simply write what comes naturally, without thinking too hard about it. This is especially imperative for the first draft. Many times, the first draft will suck, but that’s the thing – corrections can be made later, in edits, in rewrites. When it comes to the first draft, have a rough plan in mind – and just write it out without thinking too much.
