Quick Tip: Rewrites

Hey there fellow aspiring writers. We all know how tiresome editing our babies can be. I’m here to introduce you to my odd ways of editing a script: rewrite the entire script into another document.

On the left side of my monitor I have a blank page, and on the right is whatever number draft you’re up to. In this method of rewriting, you rewrite every action line, every dialogue line, every transition, EVERYTHING.

The first reason this works is because when you’re just rereading you can think “I’ll keep that” but hate it in a week. By making yourself focus on each line, it gives you more time to consider why you want to keep that line.

The second reason why I love this editing practice is due to laziness. If it’s late and I haven’t written at all on a certain day, simply copying word for word onto another page is technically making progress. Plus even then I’ll at least find one or two lines that can be improved.

P.S. Don’t copy and paste, that defeats the purpose. Hope you find this helpful, happy writing!
