When the topic of ‘Batman soundtracks’ is brought up, many of us often think of Danny Elfman’s score for the 1989 Tim Burton movie, Hans Zimmer’s genre-defining score for Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, or even the sound brought on by XL Junkie for Zach Snyder’s films. But there are a few names who deserve to be recognized, and they are Shirley Walker, Lolita Ritmanis and Michael McCuistion, some of the main composers behind Batman: The Animated Series.
Batman: the Animated Series Soundtrack by Shirley Walker, Lolita Ritmanis, Michael McCuistion
Why I Listen – Often regarded by many as the quintessential version of the Dark Knight himself, BTAS was everything- fun, dark, mysterious, exciting, adventurous and intelligent. And one of the reasons why the show works so much is its score, which consists of beautiful themes composed for the characters, as well as incidental music that’ll get your blood pumping and make you feel as if you are the Dark Knight himself.
Next time you find your action scenes are lacking the right energy, consider listening to Batman: The Animated Series’ score, which will instantly send your mind to a place where everything is both wonderful and dangerous, transporting you into the world of a script- a world that will hopefully one day have a score as good as the one composed by Ms. Walker and her other contributors.
