Sometimes you’re in the mood for something a little repetitive and simple. Instrumental music that consists of repetition and variation. Introspective but still with some momentum – music for a fugue state. Where you don’t have to think about anything except putting the next word on the page

Why I Listen – I’ve always been a fan of Philip Glass, and for one project I realized I needed that kind of music – modern works scored primarily for the piano, repetitive, drilling, but also given to a false sense of security. So I assembled a playlist with Glass’s piano work as its core, then spread out from there. A little Max Richter, a dash of Olivia Belli, and soon I had a collection of songs I could zone out to.
Since the project takes place in a rural setting, I threw some Agnes Obel in there as well for flavor. The Handmaiden soundtrack completed the puzzle with its heavy sense of longing and desire.
This playlist pretty much works straight out of the box. I use it when I want no distractions, or I’m looking for something a little wondrous in mood. Sometimes I’m listening to it when I’m trying to sleep. So toss it on and see what you can use it for.
