A project I’m currently working on features witches in a rural setting. Definitely a horror film, with some American Gothic mixed in. I focused in on two types of music to merge into one.

Why I Listen – To start I used Colin Stetson – who should be the go to composer for any horror writer working right now. His unsettling and honking saxophone covers a lot of the terror featured in the project. His work on the Color out of Space especially laid the foundation for this playlist.
To that I mixed in some witchy singers. Primarily Perera Elsewhere‘s breathy incantations and Bat for Lashes‘s first album Fur and Gold. Both women make music that promises something is wrong, even if you can’t say quite what. Sprinkle in some female folk singers and you have an earthy, uncanny brew to listen to while working on a witchy script.
